Spectroscopes...anyone

Any one actually using a spectroscope as part of their kit?
I'm hoping to "throw" one together at the weekend; an WPO Littrow design (a la Maurice Gavin) www.astroman.fsnet.co.uk/index.htm

I am very interested.But what is the aim?I have gone into spectra purely from a light pollution perspective.Have lots of lenses and expertise.

I have one in my kit. Its a metal tube and a filter on the end.
The filter is a Baader Planetarium Spectroscopic Grating.

I use it sometimes as just a fun thing.
I have never used it for any study

I cannot tell you much about the filter. Sorry.

Was so inspired by the work of Maurice Gavin, that I'd like to get set up to be able to get spectra of SN and other variable stars. Would compliment some of the professional work?!

What type of set up do you have? CCD camera? Resolution? etc
