Are the 4.8mm naglers dodgy?

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the 4.8mm nagler (type 1?). I have read all the cloudy night reviews but they didn't seem to indicate anything one way or the other. I did a search here (IIS) but didn't find anything.

The reason I ask is that it would give exactly 100x in my scope and is blody cheap for a nagler. Bintel has them for $260.

I wouldn't be expecting that they would have edge to edge performance of a type 4 to 6, or the sharpness of a Panoptic but why are they so cheap?

You can find a review/impression on Ed Tings scope review site here http://www.scopereviews.com/page2.html#1 along with other naglers. Short eye relief could be a worry [7mm]

If I were you, I would go for a 9mm Nagler T1, or a Meade 8.8mm 4000 UWA or even a Pentax 10mm XW and use a barlow on it. Obviously, the 10mm XW has much better eye relief and is more expensive, but you'll have the luxury of comfortable viewing.
I find that eyepieces with short eye relief make for a night in frustration, especially when your eyeball gets too close to that cold lens , it immediately fogs up ; , unless of course, you have an eyepiece warmer !!!

Some of the US stores have the 4.8mm nagler on special for 95US which is about 120AU at the moment , not bad for a Nagler
