Firewire and powering devices

It's my understanding that the 4-pin firewire ports don't supply power to the device, so an external power supply is needed.

But that the 6-pin firewire ports do supply power through the connection.

Firstly, is that correct?

Secondly, what about the 9-pin firewire ports? Do they supply power through the port?

Will the 9-pin 800mb firewire port in my MacBook Pro supply power to my DMK41AF02? I'll be using a 9-pin to 6-pin cable.

Cheers

Hi Mike. Yes the 6 pin does supply power (well it used to for my old DMK). All you should need is a powered 6 pin, 4 port Belkin firewire hub and a 4-6 pin cable to run from the hub to the lappy. Alternatively I used to use a powered PCMCIA card with 6 pin Firewire ports. I may even still have one around here somewhere if you need it.
