Ngc 1300

Nice barred spiral in Eridanus.
Scope: 110mm APO (William Optics)
Camera: QSI540wsg
Mount: GM8
4 x 5 min RGB, 6 x 5 min L
Fields: 30' x 30' and 60' x 60'

There is some flare from an out of field star, but Marc thinks that flocking the dew shield will cut out that sort of thing. See the thread here. The cropped image gets rid of most of this, but unfortunately cuts out the galaxy NGC 1297 just to the north.

One of my favorite galaxies. Nice detail in it, smooth texture. Background is perhaps a bit light or noisy.

The flare looks like a tractor-beam from the Enterprise come to capture NGC 1300 and tow it away (have to be a trekkie to understand)

Thanks Roger. Actually a bit of messing around in PS will probably get rid of the flare. The thumbnail is a quick attempt.

I'm sure Jase posted something a while ago about isolating the background from DSO/starfield to minimise gradients and halos. Pretty sure I've got it on file somewhere. Will dig it out. Very cool pic btw

The star flare makes it quite surreal.

That's weird - it looks like a projector image and NGC1300 is being projected onto the sky.

Bummer about the flare that pointing right at it!
Reminds me of that russian event not long ago with that swirly light in the sky!

My previous Astronomik filters showed this efect more often than I'd have liked but the new low reflection varients appear tro have eliminated it.

It's a great galaxy and looks very cool in your rendition, with her arms winding almost around twice.
