I used to give to international charities hoping to assist, right up until I read Edward Griffin's book 'The Creature from Jekyll Island'...now I do what I can directly or just give locally.

Mark I was like you and still are in some ways, doubting the ability of these causes to direct the funds appropriately but hey sometimes you've just got too do it the intent of my thread was not too prompt anyone to donate but too maybe make people aware of the atrocities man still continues to inflict on his fellow man out of ignorance or greed

Hmmm... not sure what you're suggesting there Vaclav.
But certainly when hurricane Katrina bombarded Houston etc a few years ago, the reports from stranded people, especially a stranded Aussie who appeared on the news, were that people very quickly started behaving like savages.
But under normal circumstances, I'm sure many of us consider ourselves reasonably 'civilised and humane'.

Only westeners are civilised, everyone knows that. We should all donate to say........ a christian missionary organisation and a few tons of bibles and convert them from their evil ways to something more civilised, that should do the trick, trash their culture totally, a fresh start. And if that dosent work, a bit of shock and awe perhaps, bomb the crap out of them till they get it right.
Better still, forcibly "educate" them (or subtly, with lots of money, they couldnt resist that) in our superior ways, you know, democracy, equal rights, freedom of speech etc and other god given gifts we all understand to be obvious birth rights.
Its important that we understand there is no such thing as "different cultures we dont understand". Evil is evil, only we westeners truely understand "civilised", its obvious, everyone else needs to conform to our definition or we will fix it for you. We have the money, we have the power. Dont agree with us?, what?, punks, we will TRASH you.

This is what I mean, if we were truly civilized we would not revert to animal behavior under any circumstance

Of course !, Im sure your definition of "civilised" is very reasonable (really). What are you going to do about it Vaclav, "teach" them ?, do you have the right?.

Each person must find his own path to enlightenment all we can do is help if he asks for it

Victims always do, whole cultures never do (ask for help). " path to enlightenment" is an interesting concept, yours I presume?. Donating to victims is a noble cause, just dont load the help with bagage that implies a superior attitude.

Not sure one can do that. Every charitable act comes laden with judgements. (Why did we give to these people and not to those instead???) Either we know our prejudices or we don't, but none is free of them, I'd be pretty sure about that. Superior attitude? You'd be hard pressed to deny that concepts like "pity" can be devoid of them. Sorry Fred, but you seem to be a bit harsh. Yes, I've seen a fair bit of the proselytizing do-gooders in action. Makes me gag, I'll admit it. Funny thing is, though, the non-proselytizing types seemed to be pretty thin on the ground where it counts.

Sorry guys I only opened this thread to enlighten you about the plight of an already disadavantage group of people.
My intent was not for this thread to develop into an argument about the semantics as to who is right or wrong or whether one shoud give or not give.
There are many people that suffer within this world for one reason or another and we can't give too them all however when a group who are already suffering because of a genetic disorder are being brutality slain by their own countrymen out of ignorance and for gain that really gets me mad.
