Just a Poll but no Posts on Global Warming

I really don’t think there is much point in posting a view about this because chances are the thread will just get unpleasant; feelings will get hurt and you’re not gonna convince anyone anyways. BUT wouldn’t you like to know whether most people think global warming is a real problem or just hype. So can I encourage you to just do the Poll without giving reasons.

Regards

Claude

Well if I might interject here the result is quite surprising to me. It seems that almost 60% of those who chose to respond thus far think that global warming is either not a problemn or not a problem we can do anything about. Hmmmmm

Yes you're right Fred but in my defense my wife was telling me the other day that studies have shown that when you present people with more then 3 choices their stress levels rise dramatically. So you might say I was just being considerate

Global warming or Global cooling.
Whichever is going to beset us, it's going to happen in the near future.

I voted : The world is warming to dangerous levels and we have to do something.

I have strong scientific and engineering credentials and have a pretty good understanding of the science and have read widely. I am worried for the future , will be bad for my son and my grandchildren because too many people just don't care, or have vested interests in maintaining the status quo.

Read Ben Elton's "This Other Eden" and "Stark" for some very humorous but profound insights into the topic of global poisoning.

I cant my vote but sadly I think that it is all a moot point

Even if mankind were to acknowledge any potential problem in unison, I don't believe we have the ability as species to do anything. The exponential problems imposed by greed, corruption, and selfishness outweigh the will and ability and actions of the motivated when you scale up the size of the response to one for all mankind.

You forgot the option:
"It's a serious problem but won't have any noticable impact until after I'm dead"

I have some hope this poll still shows that overall 60% do believe that there is a problem.

I looked at the results of the poll and they worry me immensely. The fact that so many believe the pollies and self appointed gurus who believe we are all doomed to roast and die of CO2 poisoning. Its the greatest scam ever thought of by the people who want to govern the world to their own ends.

Do you own research on the carbon cycle. That's what keeps us alive! The temperature has been much hotter and much colder at previous times in the last 2000 years.

As for climate change. That is a slightly different story. Climate change has been going on for thousands of years without any help from man. Greenland was once green, The Sahara was once a jungle, Central Australia was once green. Even antarctica was warm once etc. The only input man has had to the natural process is excessive land clearance that causes changes to air movement patterns.

Warren,

The way I interpret the figures about 60% are saying the world is warming to dangerous levels and about 60% are saying its not something worth doing anything about. Hmmmmmmm

By the figures in the poll 40.38% think we have to do something and 19.23% think its out of our control.

I believe Global Warming is a credible and substantial threat. We have the capability of doing something about it, however with the lack of will by many believers and a frighteningly high percentage of skeptics I fear we are doomed.

By geez, I hope the skeptics are right
