New 23" screen? wide??

Running my older PC into my new Samsung P2350 23" wide screen gives a stretched apperance, what can I do (if anything) to have it run in wide mode?

What resolution have you set your operating system to? Is there a setting for 1920x1080? Some older graphics cards won't support this.

My screen has a horizontal resolution of 1920 and a vertical resolution of 1200, my OS provides this as a standard setting.
The 1920x1080 is not a standard computer monitor setting, at least for my video card.
