Hi everyone!

I don't believe that it is upgradeable to version 3 at all.

If you have a laptop, might be worth thinking seriously about EQMOD to control the HEQ5?

My recollection is you can "upgrade" by purchasing a whole new hand controller? This thread has some more details: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=10866

Unfortunately the Synscan hand controllers are NOT cheap. A bit like the Autostar, that's where all the "smarts" are, the mounting just has the motors and drive PCB.
I have the HEQ5pro mounting and used it very well with the V2... does a good job!
You can check out the changes between the versions on the Skywatcher web site.... I can't find my hard copy manual at the moment....
(I only upgraded to V3, cos the price was right at the time)

I think it's personally a bit rude of the manufacturer not to offer upgrades to v3 from older versions, and I suspect that by not allowing it, they're probably breaking the trade practices act 1974 in some way. The problem is fighting them costs money, takes time, and usually isn't worth it, since the government and courts rarely care about the little guys like us. They pander to the wealthy and big business. Something about trade...

Bit of fiddling to sort out cables or USB/serial connectors for EQMOD, but most people rave once they have it going. All freeware and constantly under development.
