Eyepiece Kit - Recommendations

Howdy

Am after recommendations for an eyepiece kit. Cant be bothered with loads of different eyepieces, and a box to keep them in, so i thought a kit would give the benefit of uniformity, and also a lockable case to store them in, not looking for anything uber, have a budget of around $500 tops, but less than that is good !!

Most people find themselves using maybe 3 eyepieces for 90% of the time.
I think its better to invest in 3 good ones, than a case full of mediocre ones including many that wont get used.

You can buy cases with pluckable foam to custom accommodate your eyepieces and bits and pieces.

For your scope f5 focal length 1500mm..

Widest field : 25-30mm
Mid power dso workhorse: 10-14mm
High power: 7-8mm

i was also looking at the kits but after reading this would prob choose a couple select ones.

Im aquiring a Meade 12" LX200GPS

apart from the standard eye piece .. can someone make some suggestions to a NOOB loooo!

Hi Simon, thats quite a scope to aquire.

I wouldnt like to comment on kits, but all i can say is, i now have 7 of the Meade 4000 plossls, and they are excellent. Not quite TeleVue, but still very good i find, and a real difference from the Skywatcher standards.

hmm can say this is something I have wanted since a teen but either never had the money or place to use it...

now Im living on a 5 acre lifestyle block outside of CHC in the country ... and its truely dark skies!

So now time to indulge

thanks for the advice on the eyepieces... Ill have a look round see what I can find

I pick up the scope next weds so Ill be hoping for some clear nights

I am assuming that you will have an eyepiece or two from your scope purchase...I would encourage you to use what comes with the scope for a while and gain some viewing experience. Based on that experience and what like/don't like about the views you will have a much better feel for what "next" eyepiece you should acquire. Most all budgets and tastes can be accomodated...and what works great in my Dobs may not be appropriate for your scope. Anyway, sounds like a nice scope. Enjoy it and your dark skies!

It will come with the standard eyepiece as supplied by Meade.

probably the bog standard 26mm 1.25" 4000 plossl

No, it will be the bog standard series 5000 1.25' 26mm. These are a little nicer. You should get the 2" diagonal as well I think. My 10" only came with a crappy 1.25" prism which was well short of the mark.
