Andrews Communications

I'm sure most of us from the Sydney area know of this business.... tiny little place, mainly a mail order place - but CHEAP! great prices!
I picked up my 8" Dob there the other week.... good price too.

Yesterday I was buying some hiking boots for my upcoming trip to NZ, and decided to treat myself to a little GPS handset (I'm a gadget freak!).... thought I'd got a good deal when the guy dropped his price from $370 to $297.....

Then I was surfing around and thought I'd check Andrews eyepiece range, oh, they sell GPS sets too..... while grimacing, I clicked the link..... $238 normal price!!! About 30% less, even $60 better than the other guys best price....
Good work Andrews..... BTW I'm not affiliated with this business.... but credit where credit's due!

For us folk down here in Melbourne, the Sydney outlets are the only real choice to get any decent price on astro gear.

A couple of weeks ago, i was looking for a binocular mounting bracket for my tripod.
An astro shop here had one for $50, and cheap plastic at that, i passed on this special deal.

I found the same cheopo plastic mount at a major camera store for $39, and decided it was better than the $50 price.

Should have known better, there was way too much flex in the plastic when focusing my 9x63's, so i returned it for a refund.

I purchased some big binno's from Andrews and asked for one of his metal binno brackets, and he said he would throw it in on the deal, good service i say, and these are solid without any flex at all, his price for this better quality product $19

Definately pays to shop around.

Andrews is very good price wise on the range that they carry but they dont appear to have expertise in the astronomy side to give informed accurate advice to the buyer.
They sell boxes which is fine if you go to them knowing exactly what you want.

It depends on who you speak to.... Lee is the owner, very knowledgable. Another staff member specialises in radios. I did have a problem once buying a T-ring for my D70, trying to explain to the woman on the phone that it was a Nikon SLR, and the mount hadn't changed for eons.... was sorted out in seconds with the boss though.
I tend to shop pre-informed anyway, so it doesn't bother me too much....

The Andrew's Clan are very helpful and a great bunch on guys and Gals to deal with. Lee is so full of enthusiasm and is only too willing to share information. (my $20 cheque is in the mail LOL). I have bought a few items from them and I have been very happy with service delivery and promptness. getting to speak to Lee is a challenge as his services are often called on by others (probably after the same thing you are). Thumbs up for me, I hope they attend next years SPSP!

yeah, andrewscom is pretty good. their prices are very very competitive and lee is a great guy and extremely helpful! kudos to he whole team

that said, look above my post to houghy's signature. now see the EPs there? you wont find those at andrewscom as the stock mainly GSO and synta (as well as thier own brand)... shame that cause more competitive prices for premium EPs would make them more affordable for your average joe blow.

I have had BAD service from Andrews with my last two orders, while their price might be very good, the experiance i have had has convinced me that they are not worthy of my business, and i am very dissappointed with the way i have been treated as a customer.
