SOLD: Nagler 20mm type 2. Well used.

Televue 20mm Nagler type 2 eyepiece, 82 degree.

MINT optics but the barrel is well used (cannot be used with filters because of a ding at the base). Gives excellent high contrast flat views of nebulas and open clusters. Selling because it's a bit on the heavy side for my 10" LightBridge Dob, especially at low elevations (approx same size and weight to the 31mm Nagler).

$360 including postage within Australia (registered mail).

Hi Jeff,

Is it a 2" eyepiece?
A ding? Do you mean it deforms a little bit at the barrel end? Can machine it back to normal?
How is its performance in your scope? Can you see coma near the edge?

Yes, 2" Nagler eyepiece.

Barrel end has a slight flat spot (approx 1mm inwards) near the threaded edge where a filter would normally attach. Because internal barrel thread has this flat spot, it's difficult to screw a 2" filter on. Somebody handier than me could probably remove the flatspot if they really wanted to use with filters.

Optical performance in my scope is excellent (f/5 LightBridge) ... bright contrast and very flat filed across full 82 degrees - zero coma perceptable.

I have decided to go with 2 Naglers (5mm, 13mm) and 2 Panoptics (19mm, 27mm).
(The Pan 19mm being 1.25" is much smaller and lighter than the Nagler 20mm).

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff,
Interesting to see you're going for both the Pan 19 and the Nag 13, as their actual fields are not that different.
Here's what I make your selections to be:

E.P.------Mag-----Actual Field
Nag 5 ----250---------19
Nag 13 ----96---------48
Pan 19 ----66---------59
Pan 27 ----46---------84

Cheers,
Jason.

Yes, those calcs are pretty close Jason (LB 10" focal length is 1270mm).

My strategy was to use the 20mm Nagler and a Pan 35mm, but the 7mm exit pupil on the Pan 35 was too much for my ageing eyes to handle. (Was very impressed that the guys at Bintel allowed me exchange for a Pan 27 after I got to test the 35.)

The Nagler 20mm gives excellent viewing, but is larger than I expected and the actual FOV (1.3 degrees in my scope) is too close to the Pan 27mm (1.4 degrees in my scope).
