Hello from far north coast NSW

I've been interested in astronomy and astrophotography for many many years and I don't now why it has taken me until nowe to look for a forum, I'm on so many others for other interests. I must be getting old!

My main interest is the photography side, with a special interest in eclipses, solar and lunar

I am planning a trip to the Cook Islands for the 11 July 2010 Total Solar Eclipse. The southern isalnd of Mangaia enjoys 3min 35secs of totality. Much better than my last effort - 28 hours straight travel to Copley in SA for 28 seconds of totality!

As accommodation is scarce I've already booked it - and one place refused me as they were already full for the date! I'd love to hear from anyone who's visited the islands, and particularly Mangaia, as I've never been to that part of the world.

Canon EOS300D & 20D bodies, and 18-55; 35-90; 90-300; and a Sigma 24070mm lenses. I hope to get a longer lens before the eclipse, oir get an adapter so I can still use the 500mm miiror lens from my film Canon T90. It's fixed aperture anyway so auto functions won't apply.
