saturn + rhea + storm, Sunday morning

After a long battle with resonances in the tracking system on my new mount I think I've finally got everything working...

Last night was reasonably clear, but there was haze around and the seeing was only average, maybe 6/10. I was very keen to try some more imaging so I stayed up and grabbed some Saturn data at about 3am.

With a great amount of luck I've caught the same storm feature that Mike and others have seen recently.

Capture:

PGR Dragonfly2 mono camera + Astronomik RGB filters
tv 5x barlow + extension = 7.7 x 1.8m = 13.8m focal length

R: 16fps for 90 seconds
G: 17fps for 90 seconds
B: 12fps for 90 seconds

Images are real size. You may have to click on the image again to see it real size, it's 1500 pixels wide :-)

cheers, Bird

Amazing capture Anthony. Great detail and colour.

To put the icing on the cake you captured a Storm.

Nicely done Anthony, excellent work! Your storm is more defined than mine, because my capture time was almost 4 minutes! (hence rotational smearing) I didn't even know there was a storm when I was capturing

Colours very nice, now ready for the 8/10+ seeing!

Hi Anthony

An excellent Saturn and presentation of Rhea and the storm. I love these kind of “added value” presentations as they explore more than just the main picture of the planet, revealing more about the overall system to the viewer.

Cheers

Dennis

Seems like you can have either a nice low-noise image OR a well defined image on saturn cause it's so dim... until we get 24" cooled mirrors and perfect seeing :-)

cheers, Bird

You are the master Bird

It's great you managed to capture that storm seen by Mike.

The colours and image scale are great !

I'm with Dennis, I like these 'added value' presentations.
