Moon and Venus Conjunction

I really didn't think I'd get to see this today - it was raining all night, but a strong wind this morning blew enough of the clouds away to capture the nice pairing in the pre-dawn sky.

The wide shots were taken with the Sigma 17-70 and the close-up was with the Canon stock 75-300mm @ 300mm.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to stop at a nicer location for the foreground, but with clouds looming I had to take what I could get.

Thanks for looking.

Love that first image - like a ghost hand cupping the moon! I actually saw this one this morning, just after 5am as the sky was just lightening. It was spectacular, with all the fainter stars gone and Venus blazing. Later, my daughter rang me - she works an early morning shift and went outside, looked up, and WOW! Said she just stood and stared - thought of ringing me up there and then, and for once it wouldn't have mattered!

Cheers -
