15th Feb Solar CaK

Trying all my solar scopes/ filters in Junortoun - 220mtr
Today is Cak Vixen 90 + DIY CaK filter +ASI 1600MM
Conditions a bit steadier then previous.
I've included a SDO "finder chart"
Many lumps and bridges obvious in the penumbra/umbra regions.
Bright flare like dots/ knots surround the smaller sunspots.
Enjoy.
Ken

Very nice images Ken. I also noted those bright globules and knots particularly in and around AR3226 yesterday while testing my new ASI 183mm.
The jury is still out on whether it will be a good all round Solar camera.
Well done on your images though. Keep ‘m coming.

Gerard,
Thanks!

I ended up returning my ASI 183 due to artefacts.....
I've now standardised on the ASI 1600 for all the solar scopes (White Light, CaK and Ha) and the ASI 178 for the MiniSHG.
I did keep the ATiK 314 for those long focal length spectroscope opportunities - not frequent!!

Very nice images Ken! When you say DIY CaK filter, what exactly does this mean? Did you actually create your own or make your own etalon?

C&P,
It’s a series of Omega Bob’s narrowband filters combined with a “yellow” filter from a PST CaK so basically a double stacked arrangement.
I need to look at the curve but I think about 0.1A bandwidth just below the centreline of the CaK band.
Much better than Lunt!
