Here's something new and different - for me anyway
I was randomly star-hopping around in Vela looking for a new target near Trumpler 10, but got a bit lost and inadvertently came across this object in a test frame.
It looks cool, but I was stuffed if I could ID it visually from googling reference images of the entire Vela SNR, so I asked my ASV astro buddies to plate-solve it and they reckon it's centred around hip 40590 in Puppis, but better framed around hd 69511. (Thanks Adrian & Uri).
I still can't find a reference image of it though, but surely somebody's shot it already!
Anyone? It's near NGC 2579 but in this image it doesn't really look like reference images of 2579.
It's responded well here to a few hrs of Ha, looks kinda like the Predator from the Arnie movies in profile.
No idea if there's any O3 or S2 present, so to me anyway, it's something of an enigma.
My FOV is approx 3.0 x 2.4 degrees.
Someone pop my bubble and tell me what I'm looking at please
Cheers
Andy
