you know your lappy is getting on when your battery dies

In the last few months i have had to replace 3 laptop batteries, and i just ordered my fourth tonight for my Aldi Medion ultra book. so i have done a HP, Acer, Toshiba. average age is 5 years old - with the oldest being 7 years old. that's the HP. I remember when they were new, they have and hopefully continue to serve me well

anyway what i am banging on about is what is the battery life of most lappies?

After about two years David you will find that most lap top batteries will be showing signs of loss of performance. If you have managed to get five years you are doing well.

DELL is about 1 year !! They expire about 2-3 months after the warranty runs out.

i have a macbook 11" that i got before 2012 total eclipse, i think its a 2010/11 model. if the battery goes on this not sure what i will do?

Hi David,

Your mileage will vary greatly depending on the type of battery and how you use it. My darling wife can destroy a good quality lithium battery within a few months, whereas I will get around 2 years of hard use out of mine.

From what I've been told, your lithium lappy battery loves to be stored around the 70% mark and doesn't like being on charge permanently. If you can fully charge up before use and avoid discharging much below the 50% mark you'll get loads of life out of them.

My personal experiences with lithium batteries supports the advice I was given. I'm writing this on a 2 year old lappy that still gives me 6+hrs on battery and both my mobiles are over 2 years old with good battery life.
I've also spent several thousand on replacement batteries for my cordless tools over the years and mange to get excellent service life on them these days.

Lithium batteries start dying the moment they are made. No matter if they are used or been sitting on a shelf a few years and the are dead. Older Nickel technologies fair better and can be refreshed. Doesnt matter what gadget they are powering its the same whether its a drill or your new expensive Tesla. Battery technology is starting to make good progress with graphene but don't expect new batteries for old or existing products. You should be shouting for joy to get 5 years instead of complaining.
