Car maker promoting dark skies and astronomy in Canada

In Canada, car maker Subaru have launched an advertising campaign
that links up with their Pleiades logo ('Subaru' is the Japanese name
for the Pleiades) that promotes dark skies and astronomy.

Their web site heralds them as "Proud supporter of the Royal
Astronomical Society of Canada".

I am always proud of my homeland for establishing the Dark Sky Preserves and the promotion of these seventeen locations. Australia should take note. As our population continues fo grow, and politicians talk about doubling it (no doubt to increase the tax base), it becomes increasingly hard to find true darkness anywhere near a population centre. I believe only the Coonabarabran local government area has recognised this issue. I would like to see Subaru Australia get behind the establishment of dark sight preserves in Australia.

Not only that, they've now got a huge park with no trees or lighting. It'll be great once the smoke clears.

Do they have an astronomy option on their cars with red interior lights?

What a great promo for both car and dark sky. For many of us the two are intrinsically linked to get to those darker skies.

My better half Debbie connected with that promo as did I.
Debbie commented on the response from the girls that come up from Sydney to attend our local Guides camp. Not exactly bark sky but much more so than Sydney.
They see stars that they have not seen before. Debbie and some of the other local leaders are Astro aware and make a point at revealing the skies above.

Well done Suburu. May awareness 'shine' out from this.
