escapee on the loose

Hi All.

Just letting you know that Brett, our Turtle, the one featured in the July Photo competition has escaped.

We wondered why, because of the warmer weather, he hadden't come out of his house for summer, only to discover that he wasn't at home anyway.

Could have been gone for months.

Ah well, hope he finds a good home, in a nice pond somewhere.

Cheers leon

leon, wouldn't you be a little slow to notice that a turtle ran away (oxymoron there)

escapees

Last year, our pet python which is over 1 metre long, did a runner. We were petrified he would venture to next door neighbour's garden. He keeps scores of birds, and birds = mice. He is also a horrible man who would certainly kill anything. Anyway, six months pass by with no news of "Slithers"
Then, one bright morning, I was in the downstairs dunny reading the astro mag, and suddenly a movement caught my eye. Something was sliding under the door I tell you, I was up and dressed in no time flat. It was Slithers sure enough and we managed to catch him, transfer him to a high security location (His old cage with 2 house bricks on the lid to make sure he wouldn't lift it again.) Down to the pet shop for a nice juicy frozen rat, and Slithers was fine So don't give up - your beast may return!!

Ruddy 'eck, Jimmy, I wouldn't have bothered dressing - stuff any embarrassment.

Escaping pets: The story brought back memories of my neighbour's rabbit - Sooty - who hopped out of his cage on a couple of occasions. On one of those events I was fortunate enough to see him browsing the grass after his escape. Being the good samaritan that I am I managed to collar him and return him to his little (too little) home.

No more than fifteen minutes later he was out again. His cage had a flap on top which was secured by a standard hasp and bolt. The little sod had worked out how to rotate the bolt and then slide it to unlock the thing and then simply push up the flap and scramble out.

I will never, ever again entertain the idea that rabbits are stupid.

Good luck, Leon, I hope your turtle turns up.

Years ago our family had a pet tortoise called "Araldite". We saw him get hit by a car that swerved to hit him on purpose. We found him all broken up by the side of the road - a bloody mess indeed - and took him home with us. We clamped his lower shell (which was still OK) in a vice and my older brother (who had just started studying medicine) fixed him all up with anti-biotics and an inert wrapping of some sort. We were constructing kayaks at the time so we gave him a new shell of green and red fibreglass and this is where his name came from. The new shell kept his own shell together until it healed underneath. We then removed the outer one once he was all OK again.

Anyway... we built a pond for him and he loved it. One day he slipped under the fence and went next missing. We were frantic. After much door-knocking we found that he had gone next door to visit an old Scottish couple who loved him straight away. We gave them little Araldite as they had no other pets.

He went wandering again several months later, and we found him upside down in the creek at the back of our place with his eyes pecked out by a bird. That was a very sad day in my young life.

I hope you find Brett OK.

i had a similar escapee problem. my brother and i had an un-named marsh snake... it escaped one day and we couldnt find it anywhere. litterally years later i found it while looking thru the linnen closet... as nothing more than a skeleton! i was over it by then so i found my discovery amazing to look at.

Good stories guys, yea he might turn up, he is probably still hibernating somewhere,

I mean he did have a lovely home, private beach, waterfall, and a nice big pond to lazy around in.
In winter i built him a special concrete house, with mulch and stuff in his pond enclosure so he could sleep the winter away.

Ah well he may yet come home

I only ever owned one Tortoise. I was a kid. He wandered under the fence and became Doberman food. Don't blame him. His house was only a little cardboard box and a bowl of water.

Brett is likely to come back as he has a great home. He will remember where he has it good.

Can we put out an APB on your missing friend?

Hope you find him soon.

Cheers Petra
