Finding books no longer sold.

Sorry for the awful title, I had no idea how to word it. I'm after a specific book "A Field Guide To Insects in Australia" by Paul Zborowski and Ross Storey. It seems that they're no longer printing it, in any edition, and it's extremely hard to find a copy for sale! What would be the best way to find out if they will make future copies? Should I contact the publisher directly? I'd prefer a brand new copy.

I'm only asking this because the library needs their book back

Wow - you're not wrong about it being hard to find.

Couldn't find it on Amazon, eBay or abebooks.com

Closest I got were these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_o...ki%22&_sacat=0

http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sear...borowski&sts=t

abebooks had this title:

Green Guide to Insects of Australia (2002)
Zborowski, Paul; Storey, Ross

But not sure if it is the "same" book

Anyway, I hope that it helps.

Paul

Have you tried abebooks.com

They have links to a number of used copies from Australian booksellers

Often the publisher has a number of leftovers; would be worth contacting them (if they haven't gone defunct yet!)

Amazon is usually good for out-of-print titles, but they are often from sellers all the way in the US.

Thanks for searching around Paul sometimes two sets of eyes are better than one. The Green Guide is small, only 99 pages, and seems to be more about trivial stuff than identifying insects. I'm not even sure if the other book is written in English
I'll try contacting New Holland publishing today and let you all know how the outcome.

Cheers Bill - if the 'Big 3' don't have it, it must be pretty rare!

this title was on the shelf at the botanical bookshop (ANBG) last year. Their site doesn't show copies but perhaps call them because they may have it on the shelf or at least be able to attempt to get it from CSIRO publishing

I have the 2nd edition if you want it for the cost of postage. It's 208 pp (1995/2003) but the latest (3rd ed) is around 100 pages more.

First Edition (1995) - https://booko.com.au/9780730104148/A...s-in-Australia

Second Edition (2003) - https://booko.com.au/9781876334963/A...s-in-Australia

Booko is a much quicker search database to use, for multiple sites.

If I haven't heard back from anyone in the next fortnight then I might just take you up on that offer I've seen the first and third edition, but not the second one.

Shane, it looks like these books are no longer available from any website. They all say backorder, or no due date. I don't understand why they would stop producing this one because, im my opinion, it's extremely easy to understand and has a great amount of info.

Sure thing Billi.

I think the second edition had a second-hand one there.

The first edition are just expensive!

I just heard back from New Holland publishing. They have copies of the third edition in the office for $32.99. The fourth edition will be out sometime next year.
Thanks for all the help!

I use the Book Depository. They have most books at good prices (including/free postage), or if they don't have a book they provide links to other sites that might. A quick search leads me to a used copy for $US16 + $US6.50 postage within Australia:
Zborowsky & Storey @ AbeBooks.

Billi,
I'd be interested in a copy as well . Would you mind sharing the contact for the publisher?
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil I sent an email to orders@newholland.com.au asking if there were any copies of the book available. I had a reply almost immediately. Don't bother using the "contact us" option at the top right corner of the website. There were so many troubles with errors and such.
