Gulf Astro (Normanton)

Hi Ya'll!
I am probably going to do some work up near Normanton QL in May and wondered about astro opps. Specifically weather and is it worth getting a light weight set up to bring with me with my DSLR prob 5D and lens. Would love to see M31 as can't see it from my place in Tas.
Best portable set?
Is it worth it or is it going to be clouds and rain this early?

Should be early dry season and beautiful clear dark skies, esp. If you go a bit further inland. Cheers Phil
