Macbook Pro erase/install OSX help please!

First sorry for posting it here on "General" forum. I assume people visit this one more often so someone might be able to help me.

I bought Mac-book Pro end of 2011 model from a friend. OSX version 10.6.8
He saved photoes and documents he doesn't want to lose already on thumb drive.
We followed instruction from Apple website about selling or giving away your Mac where they suggest to erase and reinstall OSX to make sure its like "out of box"

After holding Command + R keys we entered directly to "Internet Recovery mode" where we connected it to Internet with cable for faster download. Everything went fine, we erased hard drive with security option which took a few hours. After that went back to original screen choosing "Install new OSX Lion" but then trouble started!

After clicking on prompts entering user name and password for Store the message came out saying:

"This item is temporarily unavailable, please try later"

We tried his and my iTunes user name and password but still the same.

I looked on google and found out a lot of people having this problem but no solution!

Can anyone help please!

cheers

bob

The easiest way may be to track down an install disk, most Apple stores are likely to give what you need once you explain the situation. If they have any old stock versions that is.

Bob,

Make sure the issue isn't due to the App Store being down.

I tested the download today and it works for me.

You can also download the installer from another computer and copy it to a DVD. There are instructions available to do this.

Personally I would go for a more recent version, but I understand software compatibility may be an issue.

Regards

Paul

Download using another Mac and copy it to a USB.
If you havent erased the original fully you will need to create a USB key else the new install with be installed over the top of the original.

All works fine
