I've got an electric model that's has been run from 4 x 1.2v 1800 mah recharable batteries. I haven't used it for a while so when I found it today I couldn't find the batteries I've been using, but have found 4 x 1.2v 2650mAh.

Would it be OK to use these, I don't want to damage its innards.

should be fine - the voltage is the same and the model will only draw it's design current at that voltage - will run much longer on a charge than it used to though, so maybe check that it is not overheating if you run it non-stop on a full charge.
