Yeah baby!

I have mentioned before we live basically under long final to YBMC (Maroochy Airport).

JUST now, P-51 going balls to the wall at 300 feet - heard it first, ran out, and there she went. Oh that Merlin at high boost! MEOW!!!

Now waiting for it's return journey to Caboolture

You lucky b*****d Lewis! :-) - Love the sound of a Merlin and the P-51 carries it well.

Not rubbing it in, but it just came back for another run.

Might be giving some G20 big heads a joyflight?

And again.... this time gear and flaps down on approach, not a beat up.

Could be a check ride/systems check.

Nah!
If it was a P-51 with Stars & Stripes, then you didn't hear a Merlin: that was a Packard engine (albeit a US license-built Merlin...!).

Packard still called it the Merlin. The Aussie CAC built Mustangs used the Packard Merlin V-1650-3 through -7 engines.

Quite Agree ..... $995.00 for 10mins in a P-51 ...
I can fly one of my own in FSX .... and do it from any Airport in the World.
I know it's not the same.... but it's free ... can do ' barrel rolls ' ... inside turns ' .... skim the deck at 50ft.... fly under the San Fransisco Bridge .... chase other AI Aircraft flying in your sector....fly upside down .....blah blah blah.

I like to see how far I can ' lean ' the mixture out and watch the EGT Gauge ' go into the red ' ..... do it for too long and ' BANG ' .... we have engine failure......

Col...

Hi Flash,

If you go to the Collings Foundation in Massachusetts, you can pay USD 3200, spend the day and actually get to fly a Mustang P51C. How cool would that be! I was seriously considering doing so last year, but didn't have the time to get to Boston. I am still considering it, if I ever get to Stellafane again, as I also want to take a flight on their B17. USD425 for a half hour flight.

Cheers Peter

Jet schmett - no class. Being Italian doesn't make it any better either

Nothing like the purr and hum of a Merlin - I think I would have no problem paying the $995 for the one circuit. I remember years ago, he first charged $1700 for a 30 minute stint, which was not too bad. The problem - and why they HAVE to charge so much - is the leach, scum sucking insurance premiums for public liability etc.

We used to charge $120 for a 30 minute aerobatic joy ride in the Tiger Moth. It's more now... thanks to insurance premiums.

I think in NZ you can still do a dual seat Spit ride. THAT would be nicer by far...

(they also offer a Kittyhawk ride too, and it is ex-RAAF machine)
