Greg Gibbs shot last year of a canola field in the moon light, I had been searching for a place to try something similiar.
I found this canola field just outside of town with an old bluestone building in the middle. After spending some time tracking down the farmer and getting permission to go onto their land late at night I was able to get some shots out in this field.
I have managed to visit 3 times over the last week and a bit and now looks like the weather (first windy and now looks cloudy the rest of the week) means that the window of opportunity might be closing this year to get shots in this field.
I was lucky enough to have clear moonless skies however not lucky enough to get the moon rising in the east and lighting the field (fingers crossed that I maybe able to get that shot in a couple of weeks) So I had to try alternatives to get some light in the foreground, see
here for various ideas. The one that came up the best (on screen so far yet to see it in print) is cranking the ISO on the Canon 6D to 25600.
This shot is a 6 image pano, 2 lots of 3
Foreground 25 seconds, f2.8 ISO 25600, sky 25 seconds f2.8, ISO 3200.
Shot on a nodal ninja, I was shocked when I saw some auroral glow in the south and probably should have gone a 4th image to the right complete the pano. After this pano I repositioned for a better composition southward facing.
Let me know what you think, I've also inc a 100% of the foreground to see the level of noise that is in the foreground for an ISO 25600 shot, I was very impressed. Any suggestions re processing I'm always looking to improve.
Thanks
Matt
