Afterglow

I was out hunting aurora again Wednesday night. With levels at KP6-7 during the day, it was hard to resist the 5 hour drive south. Alas, the storm died a couple of hours before sunset.

This is the view from Albany, about as far south as you can get in WA. The red afterglow is all that remains of the storm.

You're like the SEAL team, Colin!

You must have camera bags packed, ready to go at a moments notice. Jump in the car and go!

Beautiful image as usual.

Glad to see I caught the same red that you did. Although, you had much, much darker skies. Lovely!

Next time, I'll do the drive all the way down the coast!

Haha, wish it was that easy. It was more a mad scramble to get everything together, down there and setup before nightfall. I had 4 cameras shooting at 2 locations separated by 5km, so was pretty down when the storm died. Plus, a cloud of smoke stuffed up the beautiful clear skies.

Good that you made the effort mate. Sadly my skies were less than ideal with smoke, so transparency wasn't so good. Our luck has to turn!

I'm heading to Tassie in a couple of weeks.

I'll be there during full Moon, sadly, but, if there's a strong enough event, who cares?

Brilliant image and composition as always Colin. Shame about the storm dying. I was all ready to go straight after the meeting I had to attend, but after getting on the net and seeing all the subsided numbers I just drove home instead.

Nice Colin. That reminds me I really must process the data I got from the same night. We saw the red too.
