Best refractor "scopesmith" in Australia

I bought a refractor I have been coveting for a LONG while (yes, more than my FL102S). It is showing it's age and does have a spot or 2 of mold on the inside of the objective (cannot tell yet if between the objective 2, or behind the last objective lens - hoping the later!).

Failing sending it back to Japan to clean and possibly recoat (though I doubt it needs the recoat), who in Australia is best suited to perform the work of clean, and probably recollimate the system (it's a 4 element Petzval Nagler astrograph design)

Perhaps Satchmo may know?

Reftractor repair

Lewis,

Glad to help out with this.

Roger Davis in Sydney is the only person I know that can repair refractors to an amazingly high standard.

He used to run the Telescope & repair service in Melbourne before moving to Sydney.

My 127 Meade APO was rejuvenated by Roger and the results speak for themselves.

His website is:

Give him a call.....he is a great guy!

regards,

Phil

I'll second that! I knew he moved to Sydney but couldn't remember the name of the new business.

Was that the Telescope & Binocular Store in Heidelberg..if it is the same Roger I thought he moved his business to Camberwell (Burke Rd) and became the Melbourne branch of Bintel.

That's him, Hans. After merging his business into BINTEL he managed the Camberwell store for some years before moving to Sydney. IMHO Roger is a really nice guy who really knows his stuff.

I agree Roger was/is a top bloke whom really was helpful. Shame he didn't stay with the Melbourne Bintel store as I find the current staff there less friendly or helpful...just my opinion...no doubt other will shout me down for this view.

Roger has since moved to Bankstown in Sydney and has opened
"Rogers Optics and Restoration".

Lewis -

Roger has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in cleaning and restoring
telescopes and binoculars. He has been keeping very busy but give him a call
on 0425 709 508.

He even specifically mentions "mould growing on optics" on his home page!
http://www.rogersopticsrestoration.com.au/

He was also a sponsor at this year's South Pacific Star Party.

Best Regards

I have been in contact, and we will be doing the necessary cleaning and/or adjustments in October, as he is leaving tomorrow for the USA.
