I bought a Jeep!

The old sedan did well but it had its limits, now that I have a 4x4 I'm pretty much unstoppable.

Things that might get in the way: Uluru, verticle cliffs, Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean etc... as far as I know Jeeps don't float.

Meanwhile check the classifieds if you're looking for a reliable 4 door sedan.

Taken in the Blue Mountains under moonlight on Sunday night.

The second shot is Sydney 100km away with the moon rising on the left, firefighters were back-burning over weekend which left a cloud of smoke over Sydney and in turn turning the sky orange red under the moonlight and above the suburban lights.

If you look closely you can just make out the red light on top of the Centre Point Tower. 3 frame landscape panorama at 35mm.

Welcome to the Jeep world, that's a Grand Cherokee I assume. My Jeep has been all over Australia in the last seven years and still going strong. Simpson desert, to Cape York its all open up to you now, but you will probably need better tyres at least. Plenty of room for telescope gear.

Nice pics, Carlos. I reckon the Jeep will cost you heaps in fuel compared to the Merc, though. As you say, it will go places the Mercedes won't.

Bought a Nissan Murano recently as the family car. Certainly big enough to carry all my gear, but I have been threatened with risk of removal of conjugal "meetings" if I dare take it bush. Dirt roads etc fine, but not bush

I get a similar reaction if I suggest to take the Prado (now 8 years old - bought new) any further than fire trails. Never had that problem with the SWB Pajero.

Thanks Glen! That's exactly what I wanted to hear, I'm glad it's served you well!! Yes the Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. Such a nice cruisemobile. I hopped into the sedan yesterday to give a potential buyer a test drive and it felt like I was in a go-kart, sooo small. I think I've been converted for life.

I need to jump on a few Jeep forums to see what upgrades people have done, guessing some work might be needed before going bush i.e. Transmission Cooler, better tyres etc do you have any suggestions?

Almost bought the Wrangler, other half took one look at the brochure and said no way!!

Thanks Laurie! fuel consumption was considered, on the books it quotes approx 11L/100km - it's been 2 weeks, already clocked 2000kms and its sitting around 10-12L/100km pretty happy with that.
