Bargain?

Just throwing this out there for some feedback.

I still haven't purchased a scope which will be a dob at least an 8 inch possibly a 10 (probably a 10). I have been scanning the classifieds just out of interest.

Today on Gumtree a Takahashi FS-128 appeared with an EQ mount/tripod. It didn't have any eye pieces. For a price I couldn't believe. $75.00. I was thinking it would be worth the gamble but sold (maybe not surprisingly) very quickly.

Do people with more experience think this is an incredible price? It looked in good condition in the photos. I know you would have to look at in person to truly gauge its condition. Maybe it damaged, who knows.

The man selling it didn't seem to know what he was selling. He was more concerned his son had left something at his house that was taking up too much space. So he sold it. I wonder how happy his son will be?

Maybe someone on the forum bought it. I would be interested to hear what the condition was like.

Post a link. Cant find it. However, you need to be damn careful on Gumtree. I've come close to being ripped off several times.

$75 for a Takahashi FS-128 OTA alone screams buyer beware but then $75 is a small sum for a gamble that the ad might be genuine and the seller is somewhat clueless about what they are selling.

That's what I was thinking .... clueless as to what it is ' really ' worth....wish I lived close by.....could be the ' bargain ' of this decade.

Yep. I couldn't get there today. I rang just after lunch and got a phone call about 2 hours later saying it had just been collected.

Un-bloody-believable... And I was trawling Scamtree today and missed that! I would have flown down to Adelaide to get it!

Thinking rationally, it may also be hot property. One should proceed with caution.

Doubt it was hot. The bloke I spoke to was pretty mystified. I told him what it was probably worth and I think he is now booking tickets to South America. His son gave it to him..... Gawd

It was probably better NOT to tell him... Imagine that got-dropping feeling, and the blood drawing from your face... and then the self-mutilation

Just a tad immoral to take the scope from the guy for such a low price without making him aware of it's value.

I would have to agree here, but at the same time everyone has access to any information they want. All he had to do was google TAK FS128 and he would have seen the price for them new.

Also in Gumtree:
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/redfe...130/1026842074

Do you think the seller is try to do something when he/she claimed the original price will be at $3000 mark?
