We always have the old chestnut about Laser pointers and their misuse. The authorities would like to give the impression that one errant beam would cause the immediate crashing to the ground of the intended target. Here is an interesting item that was on Gizmodo.
Would be interesting for the aviation regulators to interview the pilot and see just how distracting it was? Given the unrest in Egypt at the moment, I guess that would be unlikely.
And it also begs the question, were the protestors hoping the chopper would crash down on top of them??

Well, Egypt is not (yet) a nanny state..
Besides, (military) pilots were probably wearing safety goggles with IR and 532nm bandstop filters, as a precaution.

The beeb had an article on this yesterday and reported that the lasers aimed at the helicopters were in celebration. I don't mind Gizmodo but I'd be more inclined to believe the BBC. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-maga...nitor-23178484
Besides if a laser pointer could cause a military heli problems why would anyone bother with the more extreme methods of fighting them...?
