Hmm... this happened on my Anzac Day...

... flew into monstrous turbulence at 1300 metres with my paraglider collapsing. It suddenly went into a spiral dive pulling 4G's, with part of the wing tangled in the lines, unrecoverable. After a couple of seconds I threw the reserve parachute.

Only snag was that on the reserve you have no control where it goes, and it came down right over the crown of an old dead gumtree

I was very very lucky... it hooked the tree perfectly so I finished suspended from the tree with my feet touching the ground

End result : pilot has 1 bruised leg, a hole in the paraglider where a branch went through it, and the reserve was completely shredded by the tree.

Not only was there someone taking photos (!) but my wife was watching all this... she took it very well.

That's why I prefer a nice solid glider fuselage around me.
