Star Streaks

This is a single 20 minute exposure taken on Friday night at the IceInSpace AstroCamp, with the Canon 6D and Samyang 14mm lens @ ISO800.

I went for a drive up along the ridge overlooking the camp and found this great paddock with this great tree I used to silhouette against the sky.

A cow moving behind me during the exposure scared me, especially when I turned around and my red headlamp reflected off its eyes - so now it was an evil cow with red eyes just waiting for me to turn my back again

The clouds really provided some great depth during this exposure, and I love the long streaks from the long exposure.

Oooh I like that one! Love the colours and the depth, framing and transparency of the image.

There's no subsitute for 20 minute exposures eh?

I know about being spooked at night. A few weekends ago I was at my dark site observatory which had survived a major bushfire/grass fire and everything had been burnt clean. I heard a slight rustling on the grass and there was an extremely healthy looking funnel web walking along not far from where I sometimes stand waiting for a 10 minute sub to complete!

Greg.

That's beautiful Mike, love the colours across the sky and the foreground is just exposed enough to see the green grass. Lovely.

Love it.

New idea for IISAC 2014 - a map of the best nightscape spots around Lostock.

Thanks guys. I love the look of the stars in a single exposure like this, but there was certainly more noise and hot pixels than stacking shorter exposures. They cleaned up pretty well though.

This was at ISO800, so I could've used a lower ISO but would've needed a longer exposure and didn't want to hang around too long.

Pretty cool. The patterns of circular star trail and clouds perspective lines makes for a nice mix.
