Seriously thinking of buying the CG-5 GOTO mount/tripod to give my old Celestar 8 new life, however I need to obtain a dovetail plate that fits...
The bottom of my OTA has the screws to match the 2 back and 1 front screw to fit the orange dovetail plate that Celestron make, however it's the measurements that I am not 100% sure of...
Just wondering if anyone out there has an answer for me.Thanks in advanceGuy
Yep , there are really only 2 types used today , Vixen and Losmandy so it will be one ore the other , Vixen I would say without looking at a picture of yours .
I wont mention Zeiss or Takahashi here .
Brian.
I ended up getting two bars, top and bottom, one wide the other narrow, Vixen is the narrow one which was what I needed for the current mount the other for the EQ6pro when I get it.
The only thing I had to do was a little work with a file on the saddles to get the screws I got off the scope to sit flat. I was advised to be carefull with the length of the screws to make sure they didn't interfere with the mirror or corrector plate.
I'm going ahead with the purchase of the Celestron CG-5 GOTO mount/tripod.
If I understand all of you correctly, I need a Vixen type dovetail for my early 2000 Celestar 8, which I believe has the same mounting holes and locations as your '94 C8, to match the head of the CG-5 mount.
I brought the Losmandy set, the ADM seem to be very similar so should do the job. I don't know anything about the mount however. I have seen a few posts from people who seem to have put a C8 on this mount however. I hope it works for you.

I have a C8 that came with a CG5-ASGT mount. That mount now has an ADM D-series adapter and the C8 two Losmandy D-series dovetails. It doesn't get much use. The C8 or my 127ED spend most of their time on a Losmandy G11.
