Two Nights at Mt John Observatory - Lake Tekapo N.Z.

Hi all, a couple of quick snapshots of some of the mundane landscape we have to put up with around here.....

.....recent visit for job interview at Mt John Observatory, Lake Tekapo NZ.

Not a bad "office".....what say..?....should I take the job?

Thanks Mike - NZ's new "International Dark Sky Reserve" in the MacKenzie country and quite a humbling landscape to stand in the middle of (not to mention there were so many stars they actually cast a shadow!! - I kid not, you could almost read a newspaper).

I'm sure it must be a similar feeling to standing in the Simpson or in the shadow of Uluru - really must plan an outback trip sometime.

D

Yup, I'll be taking everything I own that has lenses, mirrors, dials, weights, switches, cables and coolers! You bet.

Working for an award winning commercial tourism enterprise called "Earth & Sky" who have exclusive use of the Mt John area for guided daytime and night-time tours of the facilities and skies in that location (actually, you can see that same sky from some other places too but not with the educational and entertaining commentary from the guides

.....getting to tour the facilities there, see the scopes and learn about the research being undertaken is worthwhile in it's own right - the International Dark Sky Reserve (and complimentary hot chocolate) are the icing on the cake!

Right, off to pack.
