Bought a new Canon 60D a couple of weeks ago. Was taking some terrestrial shots through the telescope when it stopped working. No power. Switching it off and on made no difference. Battery was still indicating 100% power when it stopped working. Took it back to the retailer and they replaced it with a new one.
Used the replacement one early last week and got some great nebulae photos. I was using it last night and the replacement one stopped working with the same symptoms.
I was using the Canon EOS utility on my laptop in remote control mode
I have sent if off to the Canon service centre this morning.
Any ideas ? I thought these Cameras were bullet proof.
I am sure I saw something like this one with my 600D. I was frantically trying to sort out what was going on and I think it was something like the camera whilst connected via USB shutdown after period of inactivity then I could not get it to turn back on while it was still connected to the USB, had to unplug it and turn it back on and reconnect it. I'm sure it was something along those lines, wonder if that was the same sort of thing you had?
If it's the software-you could try using the latest version of astrophotography tool (APT)- it runs my 60Da well. Just remember to use M setting for live view focusing then disconnect (press software button disconnect) then switch to B mode and reconnect for long exposures. For short flats still use the M mode.

I had it set to bulb mode while I was focusing the telescope using live view mode. When I exited live view mode I couldn't get into the timer setting dialogue to take a 30 second exposure. A number of the dialogue buttons wouldn't respond. I then pressed the shutter button and that is when it all went haywire. The flash went off , it tried to automatically focus took some shots and then went dead. I had taken about 10 * 30 second shots prior to this using the interval timer.
