Todays Sun - May 5

These were all captured this morning in some pretty ordinary seeing. I have a lot of hires stuff that I won't post (some I haven't bothered to finish processing).

We seem to have a bit of busy side and quiet side to the Sun ATM I think. This is the quieter half IMO.

Just having had a look again on my desktop screen and without the pressure to process... gee, the top half of the second full disc shot is a bit soft. I had hoped to recover some better images, but I guess it was the worst seeing I've seen in a long time.

More great shots Al - one of the proms is very detailed - the conditions are quite painful of late - when I have been imaging the features are really bouncing on the screen - still I hope that there will be some still skies in a session or be able to get something in processing. I did image today but am a touch disappointed with the skies of late!

Its been quite challenging lately, but Saturday was the worst conditions I've had in a while. I should've had a look at what the jet stream was doing. Ignoring the jetstream, I'm thinking I'm entering a period of poor solar seeing - a combination of low sun altitude and thermals. I know I've managed better with lower sun altitude during winter, but the thermals aren't as active then.

I usually image around 10am. It seems to give me the best seeing - reasonable altitude before the thermals kick in. Summer time I start a bit earlier, and winter time later. Its all a trade off.

Nice work Al, you’ve got some lovely detail in the higher res shots. Like you, I seem to get the better of the seeing between around 9:30am and 11:30am.

Cheers

Dennis
