"The Big Picture" - Insane Tsunami Photos

Incredible - the Boston Globe has done it again - before and after images showing the scene today as opposed to that seen a year ago right after the event. Click image to see the scene as it was a year ago. Damn, that's a LOT of water. Striking me most is the photo of a suburban street, with a small nondescript house on it. Flick back to a year ago to see a full sized ocean-going ship on the font lawn. Simply amazing. The Japanese have really knuckled down and cleaned up the debris, transforming their landscape. I actually wonder where it has all been moved to. I guess there are some pretty big piles somewhere. I guess that steel shortages will not be a problem for a while in Japan.

Those photo's really show how the Japanese get stuck in to getting things done if they need to. Amazing stuff to come out of such a sad situation.

Cheers,
Jason.

Interesting link Chris-thanks for posting-was not familiar with this 'Boston Globe' site, seen a few members post links to it in recent weeks.really worth a look.

Amazing before and after images-and neat system the site has to flick between them. The Japanese has done very well to get things cleaned up.

Very sobering....

The progress the Japanese have made is truly remarkable. The scale of the devastation is beyond comprehension.

Thanks Chris

That is truly mind blowing stuff. I can just imagine if that sort of devastation had hit Australia, the powers of B would still be running around in circles deciding what to do. I am in awe of the speed of clean up that they have achieved in such a short time given the degree of devastation.

Thanks for the link. It's very impressive how fast they've managed to clean up so much devastation. Yeah, one has to wonder where did they put it?

Massive clean up operation. And all the huge ships peppered all around towns they had to dismantle or float back to sea.

What I find striking is the level of the sea offshore against the cliff. The difference is nearly as high as the ship in the foreground and the two reefs are under water.

Thanks, for posting this, Chris. So very, very sobering, but, also inspiring that they have done so much in the way of recovery and progress in the space of a year.

The image that got me most was the one with Asia Symphony docked in someone's front yard.

What a resilient people.
