This is singly the stupidest comment I've ever seen here on IIS. You're saying that if you have a decent, well-paying job and love cars like this, you're an "arse wipe"? What a complete and utter shame that these were damaged like this.
Sour grapes comment if I ever heard one. A "don't have" bemoaning that some "do have". The poor buggers probably work 100 hour weeks for their entire working lives to earn and keep these vehicles. After living in Japan, I know.

Totally agree Chris, a moronic comment. Some people work VERY hard to make lots of money. Why should someone bemoan
the success of others just because THEY either didn't have the ability or the drive to do it themselves.
When I lived in Japan, my boss was a car enthusiast and had a number of high $ cars, including Ferrari. He was a really nice
guy and always happy to do things for others. He used to even send his limo and driver to pick me and the wife up to go for BBQ's!
Cheers,
Jason.

Agreed Chris, they cannot afford houses/shoe boxes there (and the media think we have an affordability problem here in Oz!), so they spent their hard earn money on holidays and fast cars and vent out their built up tension on a track.
Good on them I say.
Good to hear from enlightened members of IIS.

Yes, that would have been an inexcusable shame Mike. After waiting 25 years to find one, and then pouring a great deal of cash and passion into my rare beast for the past few years, I'd be mortified if it came to grief. It's irreplaceable.
In a way I do know how much these vehicles meant to their owners. I'm pretty sure there's a big difference between an enthusiast and a flagrant rich boy who doesn't care about having one apart from its value as a status symbol.

I imagine it's the insurance company that will foot the bill - so no tears there.
One thing you can say about the owners is that just because you own a super car it doesn't mean you can drive. The accident started when someone hit a median strip (= bad driving) and then escalated when the others couldn't stop or take evasive action because they were too close (= more bad driving). I'm not suggesting that sports car owners are worse than average - in fact in many cases their interest in cars may mean they are good drivers - but skill doesn't flow into a driver from their car, nor improved reflexes, even if it does have a prancing pony on the steering wheel, and the laws of physics can't be altered no matter how many $$ you spend. I'm reminded in this regard of the owner of a new BMW X5 4WD who lost it in a flooded river after driving past the 'road closed' sign because the salesman said it could go anywhere!

How easy one misinterprets anothers comments
"Japanese police say eight Ferraris, two Mercedes Benz and a Lamborghini crashed into each other when the lead car hit a central barrier as they drove through the country's west"
"Twelve of the 14 cars involved in the accident near Shimonoseki were supercars - including eight Ferraris, two Mercedes and a Lamborghini.
The accident caused £2m of scrap metal (Pic: Kyodo News)
Reports suggest the crash happened after a Mercedes was driven on the wrong side of the road on the Chugoku expressway."
I believe the roads were also wet.
So before you criticize someones elses maybe spur of the moment flippant comment do your research and,
a) ask yourself this what where these expensive car drivers doing at the time that resulted in this accident, speeding, erractic driving, wet roads, inexperience
b) 100hrs a week to earn their money and this is an assumption on your behalf they could be Yasuka members for all you know or the product of rich families
c) if they were dragging their expesnive cars on a busy road jeopardising other road users then my comments stand

I'll jump in here too, I work very hard to have nice things, things I enjoy, after all, isn’t that why we work hard? I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, in fact I was born and raised in Frankston raised in a housing commission estate by poor hard working parents. I worked hard at my education, got good grades and then worked hard to build a career in the ICT industry, I am now comfortable, my car is not a $300,000 piece of machinery but it is irreplaceable, especially to me, I continue to work hard to afford to keep it, I turn all my own spanners and have a grin a mile wide when I drive it, I don’t measure miles per gallon I measure it in smiles per gallon. I don’t believe I am an Ars!wipe, most people think I am a pretty decent guy. My thing is nice cars and motorbikes (astronomy and guitar), I also own a 2011 final edition Yamaha Vstar 1100, because I work hard. I make no apologies for it and dislike arbitrary comments about it, I have had comments like this said about me while I have been parked in my car, I do take exception to it. Now excuse me while I take my temper for a nice drive in my Corvette to calm down.

I appreciate that not everyone who works hard and buys nice things is an arsewipe but if they behave irresponsibily with their expensive toys then they are IMO so please don't take my comments out of context.
Cheers

No Trevor, that isnt what you said, your comment was "they were probably arsewipes and karma's a b,itch ", they being more than one, probably referring to all of them, in fact the report stated "the crash happened on a curve of the road and one Mercedes-Benz was driving in the oncoming lane." One driver did the wrong thing, probably trying to overtake a Prius that shouldnt have been in the fast lane. The other 8 drivers had their pride and joy destroyed because of it. I look at the disclaimer in your signature and fully understand where your comments come from though.

How easy one misinterprets anothers comments, personally I don't think you have qualified anything either
a) how fast where they going
b) how close where they travelling
c) how experienced at driving HP cars
it's obvious that
a) someone did something stupid
b) they were travelling to close for so many cars to be involved
c) speed was an issue on the wet roads
So before you criticize in such a derogatory tone someone elses spur of the moment flippant comment do your research as well.
With all due respect
Trevor

Sigh, sorry I started this thread. Can't we ALL take a more mature apporach?
Unless we want Mike to close down this thread.
