New star trails compilation software - "StarStaX" for Mac, PC & Linux

http://www.markus-enzweiler.de/software/software.html

I've just downloaded this for my Mac and find that it's very easy and intuitive to use. I've used "Startrails" before and this is very similar. It's always good to have alternatives...

StarStaX

StarStaX is a fast multi-platform image stacking and blending software, which is developed primarily for Star Trail Photography. It allows to merge a series of photos into a single image, where the relative motion of the stars creates structures looking like star trails.

StarStaX is available as Freeware for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. Click here for more information, documentation and software download.

Excellent.

Does it make smooth movies? I tried downloading Startrails.de a few weeks ago on my PC but the site wasn't responding. And, so far, I've only tried making a timelapse in iMovie, but, the settings are too course -- not fine enough to allow for smooth timelapses. I suspect it's like the jump from GarageBand to Logic Studio, I'll need to make the upgrade from iMovie to Final Cut Pro X.

StarStax is awesome. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now.

The best thing, it even does cumulative images where it saves the result after each addition to the stack. Great for timelapses.

It doesn't actually make movies though - that's the only thing missing from it.
