In the paper for our astro soc

LOL... Today's local paper:

http://www.macarthuradvertiser.com.a...p/2541764.aspx

The journalist did a pretty reasonable job converting all that I discussed during a 30 minute phone interview into an article. A little mis-quoted, but nonetheless good for our astronomy interests in the NSW Macarthur region. What has come out of it is a good relationship with the newspaper - fantastic for coverage of our MAS public nights and up-coming "m a g n I t u d e II - skies over macarthur" astrophotographic exhibition at the art gallery.

Excellent Chris!

MAS will get some interested queries with that story. It reads well.

Thanks Gary. I think that I'd have preferred to proof read it first, but then again that's the beauty of the free press in our society. My choice of language would have been a little more precise. LOL

Well done and the next time something comes up ie eclipse or solar transit make sure you contact them and offer photos of the event. It saves the reporters time and gives them something concrete to hang their story on.

Well done Chris.

Your worry over precision of language is unnecessary as it reads well.
Reporters are very well aware of what language to use for their readers.
In some instances they need to 'dumb it down' and I've even known instances where they have 'smartened it up'!

It is actually a good article for how short it is. The writer managed to say lots in a small space

Thanks all Hopefully we will engage with our local community even more this year. Our two local newspapers (Advertiser & Chronicle) have always been good to us as a society, so I hope that we can earn a little leverage from our good will work with the council even more this year. New government at both local and state level gives us opportunity we haven't had in a while.

Humayun: I thought that I asked you to address me as "sir", not "your grace".

Thanks all

We have a good committee and management team in place this year at MAS. Lots of plans in the works.

Ric - you're right. We don't do this to blow our own horns (to be truthful I don't really like personal attention) but to promote our hobby and an interest in astronomy and science within our community. I think that there are fewer and fewer kids and school leavers pursuing science-oriented vocations in modern times. This is a great pity in my mind. We're smarter than that as a nation.
