New Moon at the Pony Club: 5 March 2011

New Moon falls this coming Saturday night, so I am hoping some folks will join me and the Mary Rose for a late night at the Pony Club!

Hopefully the weather will be a tad steadier than it was last night for those who made it to the PC.

So, who's in?

I can't make it this weekend - was really hoping to get there, but I have a karate tournament the next day and visitors during the day on Saturday.

Have a great time! I miss everyone!

If the weather continues the way it is going, then perhaps the 12th may be the better option.

Weatherzone shows a long line of fine weather, both before and after the 12th.

Hi Shane! I would recommend that you pay scant attention to long range weather forecasting. I know a meteorologist who says that forecasting beyond the first 24 hours is little better than guess work, with all the best computer modelling in existence, simply because of the huge number of variables involved. A weather forecast for 10 days away is unfortunately a stab in the dark at best.

I am sure we have all had that experience of writing off a night's observing because of a gloomy weather forecast, only to find others raving about what a fantastic night's observing was had. These days, the decision as to whether to go observing tends to be finalised by me about an hour or two before I make the drive!!

I will make an assessment on Saturday afternoon!! (Fingers crossed!!).

While I will also make the assessment around the same time as you will, Rod, and while I do understand that each day's forecast comes from 4-5 different weather models that the bureau has running at any time, I like to see how the long range forecasts pan out from the week or so away.

And I'm too lazy to write things down, so I proclaim it on here and I can go back in a week to see how close it was.

Plus - I was closer last weekend than Andrew's (Zincberg's) chicken giblets!

Either way - here's hoping for a good weekend run.

Good thing we split our odds and went up last week for an early bird view.
