Re aluminizing the 200inch Hale mirror! Great footage.

Hi all,

I was looking up Youtube for instructions on cleaning a mirror and found this cool film...

Also found this one regarding cleaning a mirror for anyone who needs some directions, like me.

i've been using the method similar to the one in the second video clean my 8" primary, but i've only used demineralized water and not tap water as shown. i've had no issues and would recommend not using tap water.
quite easy once you get over the "anxiety" over cleaning the mirror and causing scratches. obviously common sense prevails.

i wonder what the "rock" like structures were in the hale mirror once the aluminized surface was removed. looked embedded in the glass.

I have enough trouble with 5 inches.
I'd like to see their screwdriver.

Thanks for the tip on mirror washing Alistair.
The "rock like structure" is actually the glass, they had to put a ribbed pattern in the back of the mirror to make it lighter.
Here is some info from an old book I've had since I was a kid. (A long time ago).
