Hello everyone,
I regret that I have decomissioned our (Don Goldman and I) observatory in Moorook. Even though I will be without your wonderful southern skies (for awhile) I enjoy this forum very much and will continue to post here if you don't mind.
I have been absent for awhile but have managed to finally image a target that has long been on my list. I know you have seen a million of these but I think you may find this one a bit different.
I have been learning the wonders of HDR pro and HDR tonal adjustments in CS5 and am amazed at there power. I have combined three different contrast adjusted images with two different decons (positive constraint and MaxE) and then used the MSDLB. I have been attending an online CS5 class and have learned about these wonderful tools.
Notice the Herbig-Haro objects around and within NGC2023 that blending in 8 hours of Ha helped make pop. Zoom and pan around at the details of this dusty steed.

That HH is spectacular and the dust in 2023 I don't think I have seen as strong before.
The difference between yours and the HST isn't that much actually.

Thanks for the very kind comments! This is the result of some of the "digging out the details" methods I will present at the AAIC in July. I am looking forward to meeting those who can make it.

I'm in awe, that's such an incredible image! Amazing detail, and as others have said it's not much different from the HST image. Congratulations on taking this fantastic image Ken.

Don't worry Ken, I am making use of the mount at every juncture.
As for this image. Lovely noise free image. Loads of detail and sharp resolution of the image. Excellent work.

 again for the repsonses to all and Peter, you are right that those things you mention are important factors. But as long as you can take deep data and get round stars you can dig out amazing details with the right processing steps. Getting enough good data can be the challange but more times than not we end up with "ok" data. If the S/N is good enough you can do things to make the colors and details clear in your processing.
