ITN: Hubble looks into the future

In the News:

Hubble data used to look 10,000 years into the future (w/ Video)

A mind boggling Hubble zoom-in and video of the Omega Centauri cluster.

They've plotted the motion of the stars over the next 10K years.
(The interesting bit starts at the 40 second mark).

Extraordinary !! .. who would have the foggiest when it comes to explaining the motion !!?? ..

Hi Ron;

Its kind of like they're just drifting in any number of directions .. uninfluenced by anything … kind of random. Which is a bit hard to believe, given that there must be some kind of predictable gravitational (& other) influences going on - at least amongst some of them.

But if this is the case, what keeps the cluster together ? I guess this question is along the same lines as what keeps the arms in a spiral galaxy together ?

Given that the pattern is clearly different, I guess all they can say at the moment, is that the influences are different but the physics must be the same … which might then provide some clues.

Terrific mystery. I look forward to their explanations.
