I have just discovered this wonderful community based resource for observing and imaging - the Deep Sky Observers Companion web site
http://www.docdb.net/index.php
I don't know if others have come across this site, but its new to me. It has a facility for searching DSOs by designation or by celestial coordinates if you don't know what it is. For each DSO there are facilities for loading images, sketches and observation reports, so it is driven in part by those that add to it. There are also historical notes on individual DSOs eg by the Herschels and Dunlop, links to on line resources, references and more. There is a great section on history with archival texts and sketches and others with useful tools and tutorials
This looks like a great site to browse, use and contribute to. It is based in South Africa so has a great Southern Hemisphere orientation. Auke Slotegraaf is the person behind it and seems to be doing a great job in bringing people together to develop this project.
The site could well do with some of the excellent images, observation reports and sketches produced by Ice in Space members.
I thoroughly recommend a look.
