Apologies to S&S

Apologies to Lyle, Jason and the S&S crew for the way Jason's thread was invaded last night and the cover of S&S defaced by some well-meaning, but but inappropriate posts.

Please feel free to post with the news again and i'll make sure the moderators take appropriate action by deleting posts if required.

Geez Mike, If you are referring to my posts, get a sense of humour!

The playing around with the cover of S&S was in no way against them, to ridicule them or make them look stupid! It was plain old humour!!

There was nothing done by me to their cover that put them down or degraded them.

AND IT WAS IN GENERAL CHAT!

If posts were added after mine to the thread that were demeaning or innapropriate I did not see them, but what I posted was just fun! I can't speak for any I did not see, so I hope you are referring to them.

The thread is deleted so I can't go to it and check for any innapropriateness.

I agree that it was in general chat, and it did spice things up a bit and was very funny! that part just should have been moved not cut out. I think that the editors of S&S must have to see the funny side of things, we have to when we wait for the next issues, although that is all fixed now.

Mike It was a harmless bit of fun that had me rolling around, and thats not a pretty sight

Don't blame Ken too much, we are all to blame, just frustration coming out thats all, a picture is worth a thousand words, at least it was done for a laugh

I don't post much, but read all threads regulary.

Could see no malice in your post or the humor that implied. Can't say that I saw all the replies to the post, but don't believe there was no similar intent from any of the forum members that posted replies.

But I suppose there must be those out there that did not see it with the intent that was meant!

I also received a complaint from a member drawing my attention to the thread with the opinion that defacing the cover was in bad taste. Opinions differ and whilst I got a chuckle from it, I could also see the other side of the coin.

More like....where has courtesy gone? I dont think there was 1 post that related to S&S coming out. WAS THERE?

Dictatorship??? NO, I think this forum is controlled remarkably well and in a very responsible way.

like the umpires in cricket, as long as the mods are consistent. I am not sure if it is this simple; say I post a pic, someone has some fun and mucks around with, and then say another member / or myself complains, i would expect the exact same treatment ie apology from mike etc if this is the way it is going to go.

i do not believe any company should have any special treatment and get apologies if a member would not be afforded the same reaction.

Obviously it may be a legal issue ie copyright, but then again, so are members images.

Dave, the mods would take action if anyones image was edited to portray themselves or their work in a demeaning light, especially if there was a compliant about it.

P.S. thanks for the words of support slice, too often complaints are all that are seen.

i think i did hear that before actually from one of the mods, from a courtesy point of view, i always check with the creator, if i am going to link or distribute an image or process further to help educate.

like i say, if the rules are the same for everyone then that is fine by me. They always seen to be, I can't remember any special treatment in my short time!

I agree Dave, fairs fair. I haven't seen preferential treatment for anyone either.

As a working member of the media ... both electronic and print, I can say there really wasn't much of a problem there.

Sure, it was larrikin and a little irreverent, but other than that... harmless. AS far as being potentially defamatory or the grounds for litigation? The Golden Rule for anyone deliberating over something like this is: In the minds of MOST people, would it give cause to demean, undermine or damage their standing or reputation?

I saw the posts and thought they were just innocent fun. Someone having a bit of a joke but at no time did I get the sense S&S was being ridiculed or held up for contempt. And that's the bottom line.

You can make as much of a case about something as you want but in the end it comes down to how seriously you take a little bit of fun.

But ... I will defend our moderators and their efforts to represent everyone's values and interests.

Indeed it must take the wisdom of Solomon himself to mediate this forum! I congratulate all concerned on very good job on what must very difficult and time consuming process and maybe at times seem thankless? it must be very hard not to appear to arbitrary in your judicous duties?
But, (there is always a but with me hehe) my question is why was there no prior warning to persons concerned - a moderator should have at least interjected and warned all concerned before going to the next level - deletion or termination as like to call it.
Sorry but I must be used to years of being on a lot of yahoo groups were there is very, very little moderation, and warnings prior to going to that level are de rigour! and remember yahoo posts mostly go to all members via email!!!
also they tell you and exlain when they have deleted something, which is only curteous mebbe? not just a bemused and bewildered member thinking what did they do that was so bad!!
derision or ostracization from the yahoo group members as a whole usually stops any trouble, and that is a very democratic process imo
i think it should be vendors beware on such an open group as this!

PS the rights of the individual are as equally important as the rights of the entire group in a true democracy - I think?
