Smile Victorian skies beckon

Tonight is looking like it's going to be a great night for observing in Victoria. (Geez it's been a while). I'm going home right now and packing the Dob, EPs, binos & the recliner (I'll tell you about that another time), and going for a drive.

it will be great Steve and last night was great as well, no talk about bad seeing and lousy transparency, who cares there's no cloud and the camera will get a work out tonight.

Test out those new 'Polaroids' while your driving Steve!

Looking good here too! Last night turned out horrible here Mick. Very windy and cold! Tonight should be excellent!!!!!!!!!

Yeh, but now it's too hot so I'm thinking of moving to Tasmania.

I thought last night was really good after 12. I only had the binoculars out though because I couldn't be bothered setting up after getting home at 12:30am from watching Harry Potter in gold class. Working the next day doesn't help either.

It's been tops. But I didn't make it home till 9:30 this morning. I drove as far as Bena just past Loch, found a good stretch of gravel on a hilltop to set up. Skyglow from Melbourne in the north (poor Andromeda was almost completely drowned), but very nice and dark at zenith and southward.

Gave all my eyepieces a good much-needed workout on the Moon & Venus first, Mars, and all the showpiece DSOs. Then I went Galaxy hunting. I think I'm getting good at this. I found quite a few that are not even on my charts.

... and I got to try out my new outdoor recliner. Just brilliant for binos & naked eye!

I started driving home at 4am (where does the time go?) but was too tired to drive so ended up sleeping in the car.

Now I have a difficult eyepiece decision to make: Stratus 21mm or Panoptic 19mm.

PS. Yes, Ken, the 'roids are great for driving on a sunny day.

Nothing wrong with looking at the Moon.

I thought the seeing was very poor.

I gave up by midnight.

But won't the seeing always be poor when looking over your neighbours house that they have converted into a sauna? They are probably in the sauna cooking marsh mellows over an open fire that is directly under Mars...
