First use of my new telescope!
I started with Alpha Centauri without realising it was a binary star, dropped my 10mm in and could make out the two stars clearly which was pretty cool.
Then located Saturn and first look had me so shocked i almost fell in the pool!!! Coolest thing i have ever seen.
I finished the night by successfully locating sombrero even though viewing wasn't as contrasted as i would like with light pollution and clouds rolling in.
Awesome awesome stuff.

Well done Cameron ...my Bella is the older sister of your Dobby.
Alpha Centauri is a great sight through the scope, and Saturn, well, it is always a wow!! Were you able to see a few Moons?
Stellarium will show you what moons are visible.
You FOUND the Sombrero!! Woohoo!! Fantastic job.

Sounds like another winner to me!
Now have a look at Acrux - there is another binary for you to separate. Check out the Jewel Box cluster. Definitely get "Dobby" pointed at Omega Centauri!

Hey Cameron ... general rule of thumb is to stick with your EPs for awhile before you decide what you want. They are OK Eps, and all you will need for awhile .... even though you will want more.
Lots of thread on EPs in Beginners section for you to check out.

Your 8" dobbie will serve you well for many years. While you are out there don't forget to take a squiz at the moon, it will blow your sox off.

Hi,
Always great to see another tube getting first light. I'm really impressed you found M104(Sombrero) on first night. Something I still struggle with and I know where it is (or is supposed to be!)

Mike, can't you hear the Sombrero calling you? It's up there NOW.
Have a look at the thread " easiest galaxy to see" also in the beginners forum. Ther erick has posted a brilliant star hopping chart to find it. Also happens to be the same trail I use to find it.

Great report Cameron.
Show someone else who hasnt seen Saturn before and wait for there expression its so cool.
When you get up before dawn point it up to Jupiter in the east it will be the brightest object up there.

Excitement plus
Hi Cameron & All,
Like so many others have said, your excitement is very reminiscent of my first view of Saturn -- 36-odd years ago. Good on you for finding Alpha Centauri & the Sombrero (M104) too.
As someone else said, it is just as much fun "shared" -- show someone else and enjoy their excitement!
