Meade DSI and Windows 7

Anyone have any experience getting the Meade DSI (II Pro) drivers to install and be recognised in Windows 7 (Home Premium)? Autostar installs OK and runs OK in XP Compat. mode. I reinstalled the DSI USB drivers through the small program in the Autostar folder, and the "dsiusb" driver is in the Drivers folder, but when Win 7 recognises the DSI plugged in, it can't find the driver, and when I try to manually install it either through "Upgrade Driver" in Devices, or through "Add Hardware", Win 7 will not let me "see" the driver, and will not find it in the Drivers folder. Win 7 recognises the DSI as an Unknown Device.

Best Rgds,
Bob Fuller

I haven't tried the DSI but the LPI had the same problem with windows 7. Even in XP compat mode I couldn't get the system to recognise the camera. I assume it's the same with DSI and Meade refuses to update the drivers.
I actually had to go and buy and small netbook with XP installed for $300 and both LPI and DSI work fine on that

Tried to run envisage in W7Pro but no go and no recognition of DSI.
Also W7 loads Deepskystacker OK but when you try to run it it chokes on the files, has a hissy fit, says it will try to help but then crashes as usual.
Went back to XP and all was forgiven

Solution found, but you won't like it

Thanks for your comments. After a lot of forum searching, a solution to run the DSI on Win 7 64-bit seemed the only last option, which involved installing VMWare Player on the Win 7 laptop, installing XP Home in the partition, and then installing Autostar and Envisage in the XP partition. Even then it didn't recognise the DSI drivers, until in despiration I directed Add Hardware to the Driver folder in the installed Autostar folder. Go to the Envisage folder (even though that is not the installed Envisage!), and burrow down to the XP drivers, and Add Hardware finally recognised and installed the DSI. When is Meade going to understand you can't buy new laptops with XP anymore, or even downgrade a Win 7 installation?

Best Rgds,
Bob

I hear you Bob, but not wanting to play devils advocate, when will users realise, that ancient hardware like the DSI series, wont be tested or certified against new hardware, software? The O/S came out several years AFTER the camera, how could it be certified against it? Does it say on the Meade site that the DSI series are even supported under W7? i seriously doubt it, and if thats the case, then there is no real comeback

Toshiba laptops come with XP downgrade discs
