Seben/ Orbinar filter

Has any one recently tried the Orbinar UHC or the O III filters if so what are your thoughts on them? is it worth spending the money on them, do they do the job that they're meant to. any comments are greatly appreciated
Thanks.

Try and steer clear from SEBEN if you can get away with it. I would be a bit concerned about their accessories as I have a couple and bit suss.

Is Tom Price heavily light polluted or intended use for something else?

Thanks for the feedback I do think your right in what you say about seben from what I’ve read about them. The light pollution isn’t to bad here a little bit from town and to the south so you are limited to 2 minutes exposures before it starts showing up in you photos the only reason I’m after a UHC and an O3 filter is to bring out more visual details in some of the objects I’m looking at.
Laurie.

Yeah, Seben are basically an eBay seller, not a very good one at that.

I think their worldwide feedback is 4.

I have read reviews online to stay away from Seben, due to many quality issues.

About a year ago I purchased a Seben conurban cls filter (EBAY $50). Stuck it in and imaged - the result was GREEN. It left a nasty green tinge on everything. Havn't used it since.

I since found out that they will cut out light pollution, but they can only be used on LUM channels so you can get rid of the green in psot processing later.

I am spending a little bit of time on the SEBEN to improve it performance only because I bought it and don't want to see money go down the tube (Pardon the pun).

Primarily all the accessories and lenses, filters are gone. The next step for me is to replace the focuser. But that is difficult as it is a short tube with long focal length. Consequently it has a barlow installed in the end of the focuser to increase the focal length. The problem as with all their filters is poor quality, not to mention it can be coliminated using a laser.

If I did the research first i would have elected to not to buy it. Ebay trading is suspect at the best of times and the reporting on ebay is usually only related to delivery.

I feel the most people that buy the scope or accessories would eventually be put in the cupboard never to be used again.

I would much prefer to purchase from a dealer where you can actually talk to them and discuss what your needs are. This is especially so if you are a newbie like me that needs all the help that they can get.
I have no problem with buying on line as long as you understand that what you are buying is exactly what you are after. Otherwise it may be an expensive mistake.
